Windows cannot access the specific device… Trillian Astra

Getting this error when trying to open a file?

Windows cannot access the specific device, path or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions.

Well, if you are using Windows XP Professional, you can just right click on the file, go to the Security tab, and check the appropriate options (You need to be logged into an account with Administrative Privileges). If you are using Home Edition or some other version, you will need to do this in the Administrator account in Safe Mode. NOTE: While in Safe Mode, you should be able to open the file.

Otherwise, if what you have downloaded was say… a cracked copy of Trillian Astra (or cracked program with a patch for that matter), then chances are the AVG is doing this to you.

So, here are your options… you can either just uninstall AVG, or…

  1. Open up AVG, and scan where the patch for Trillian (or another program) is located. When the message boxes fly up regarding the patch file, just add it to exceptions.
  2. When that is done, keep the AVG window open, and then run the patch. As the popups regarding the patch from AVG popup, simply press Add to Exceptions.
  3. Now, the program should run, and you should be happy! lol…

Hope that helped, comments are appreciated. And uh… oh yeah… Omnamo.com does not endorse the hacking/cracking of any program, especially those which you are supposed to pay for. We are not affiliated with Cerulean Studios, or any of the people that cracked their program, we are just a site providing solutions to everything and anything we can find.

Lost your BF2142 or BF2 CD Key? How to get it back

Ok, so when I first started playing Battlefield 2142, everything went fine, and the game seemed to run perfectly. Then, one day, I opened it up, and the game froze when loading maps (at 60-70%). How annoying… Anyway, I googled around and found that I wasn’t the only one that had this problem, and lots of people couldn’t fix there computer even with all the “fixes” posted on forums. So, I decided to just quickly reinstall it. Uninstall went fine, but when it came back up for the reinstall, a message popped up on my screen, “Please Enter CD-KEY, found on the box/booklet”. At first I thought this wouldn’t be a problem, the box was just about 2 feet away from me in my view. I picked it up to fin that it wasn’t written on the box. “Huh, must be on the booklet inside”, I thought. I opened that box to find that it wasn’t there! WTF! OMFG! Xfire-ing my friends about me revelation only resulted in several “ownt, ownt, ownt-s”. I looked around and couldn’t find the booklet. Google then told me that the CD key is also stored in the registry, but that was only with the game installed :(.

But then, I came across a brilliant idea! System Restore! I restored my computer to just before I uninstalled the game and found that while this did not restore the game so that you could play it, it did restore all the registry files that you had! YAY!

So, now I’ll show you how to do this. First, go to START>Run, and then type in msconfig, the System Configuration Utility should pop-up. Then, just click the Launch System Restore button. After System Restore pops up, make sure that Restore my computer to an earlier time, is selected and click Next. Now, click the dates on the calender until you find the one where it says Removed Battlefield 2142. Click on those words and then click Next, and then Next once again. Your computer will now shutdown and restart with BF2142 installed once again. You might notice however, that it may not actually work. This is not important though, since we just want to get your CD-Key back. When your computer turns back on, you can do one of the following:

1) Download the following program to find your Cd-Key (http://files.xnr.be/a03f563a32cd93bf3c66faa28782d8a6.bat). This is a program written by SaladFork from the FeverGaming, BF2 forums that i slightly modified to work for bf2142. For BF2 users, (http://files.xnr.be/8af7696759121f0b60cb99d2248c0a92.bat)
2) If that program fails, or you don’t feel like using it, go to START>Run, then type in Regedit. Then go under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>Software>Electronic Arts>EA Games>Battlefield 2142>and click ergc. Then click the file on the right hand side (Default), right click it, and click modify. Copy what is written here.

Now, this is the final step and applies to both steps. What your CD-Key is, is everything that program, or regedit, tells you after x9392.

That should be it, now you should have your cdkey and should be able to install once again. Make sure you write it down, or save it in a file.

Tested on Bf2142 w/ 1.25 patch

Hope it helped! Comments are appreciated!

Flyakiteosx messing up your computer? Here’s a possible reason why…

I used to use Flyakiteosx, and I really liked it. Before I go into this, you can read my previous post regarding flyakiteosx, or, heres a quick summary of what it does, right off flyakiteosx.com

FlyakiteOSX is a transformation pack. It will transform the look of an ordinary Windows XP+ system to resemble the look of Mac OS X. The installer simply automates the process of replacing critical system files, setting registry tweaks, and installing extras such as cursors, sounds, visual styles, etc. FlyakiteOSX DOES NOT contain any spyware or ad-ware of any kind. All files needed for FlyakiteOSX are stored in the Windows directory in a folder named ‘FlyakiteOSX’ that is hidden by default. All registry values for FlyakiteOSX are written to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\FlyakiteOSX.

What I liked about this program, is that it did everything for me, really quickly, and made everything look nice. The alternative to flyakiteosx, is going all over the web, downloading a bunch of tools. When someone puts it like this, the best choice is obvious, as it was for me. Anyway, the program was great, before it drove me to completely reset my computer all the way back to how it was when it came out of its box. Basically, at one point, flyakiteosx just stopped loading, messed up all my services, and lagged my computer. In addition to flyakiteosx not loading, I could not change the theme of my computer at all, and was forced to use the Windows Classic theme (yeah, I couldn’t even use the blue windows default theme). It probably did some other terrible  things, but I have tried to forget.

Possible Reasons Why

If this has happened to you, chances are you either installed Microsoft Office 2007, or installed MagicISO and its mounting utility, MagicDisc. I think that Office 2007 is a possibility, because, well, it all happened right after I installed it and restarted my computer. Noticing this, I tried to uninstall Office 2007, with no success. The uninstallation always failed. I could uninstall flyakiteosx, and did so, but the problem still remained. Using the computer became quite difficult. It seems that flyakiteosx alters system files for Office 2003, and I guess those interfere with what Office 2007 tries to put in place, messing things up. If you can find a way, get rid of both programs.

I also mentioned that MagicISO with MagicDisc could also end up doing this to your computer,  be sure to uninstall this, and upon your next restart, things may be back to normal. In fact, after I wiped my computer and tried to use this program (without flyakiteosx, or Office 2007), the program screwed my computer the same way it did before I wiped my computer.

So… before you go and get that recovery cd and lose all your work, try to uninstall all of these programs, reboot, and see if things go back to normal.

Hope this helps, and thanks for reading!

btw, before I did wipe my computer, I already had my external hard drives full, and ended up only being able to back up all my media by using every single 4.7 GB DVD I had in my house… :(

Disc Burner Or Software Not Found - The quick solution for Itunes

So, today I opened up iTunes to burn the 8 songs that I had just bought in their online music and video shop service. The program recognizes that a blank disc has been inserted into my cd drive, and notifies me that I can now burn a playlist. I put all my new songs into a playlist, make sure that everything is checked, and then i hit the “Burn Disc” button. After a bit of processing, the following message appeared in status box: “Disc Burner Or Software Not Found”. Seeing this, I immediately checked my Burning settings under Preferences, and saw that my DVD/CD burner was display there. So, I thought to myself, “What could be the problem ?”

I went to My Computer, right clicked on the drive and tried to look for updated drivers, and rolling back wouldn’t do any good since I couldn’t remember ever updating them in the first place. After a bit of searching, I found that the problem had been caused by the program Daemon Tools and the SPTD update that comes along with it. Some users found their solution is just uninstalling the program and altering/removing SPTD.sys (I didn’t read through it, because this wasn’t an option for me). However, I wanted to keep the program, and there was no way that I was going to uninstall/reinstall every time I needed to burn a disc. The program is also very easy to use, so I didn’t really want to use a substitute like Alcohol 100%. So, I found out a way to keep Daemon Tools, and be able to burn through iTunes.

The Solution:

Below are links to download an addon to daemon tools that upgrades the SCSI connection and fixes this iTunes bug. The addon is called, SPTD v1.50 X64

You can download them at http://disc-tools.com/download/daemon+sptd+md5sum, just look for SPTD v1.50 X64, and select the one right for your computer.

Or, I could just place direct download links here for both the 32-bit version, and the 64-bit version… I think I will…

SPTD v1.50 X86 (32 bit)

SPTD v1.50 X64 (64 bit)

After you download it, just install it.
